Celebrating the release of 'What the Ladybird Heard Next'

The title of this post should really be 'Celebrating the release of What the Ladybird Heard Next, with Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks.

Because that is exactly what we did yesterday!

Like many a household we are massive Julia Donaldson fans, her stories are fun and exciting, and she always seems to pair with the perfect illustrators to help bring out the best in her stories.

Her most recent story is a sequel to much loved story 'What the Ladybird Heard' entitled 'What the Ladybird Heard Next', it's a story about two greedy robbers, who have a cunning plan to steal the fat red hen, but the ladybird has an even better plan and the robbers end up getting a smelly surprise!

What better way to celebrate the release of a book set in a farmyard, than on a farm?!

After much convincing (she wanted to be a panda) Millie had her face painted to look like a PINK ladybird!

We were treated to some lovely cupcakes...

And we got to chat with Julia and Lydia and get our book signed!

BUT the best part of the afternoon was the play of the story, narrated by Julia Donaldson herself! Looking around the room, the adults were just as mesmerised as the children! Millie was one of the children picked by Julia to play the part of a bee, which she loved and hasn't stopped talking about since!

Then Lydia Monks took to the floor to draw a funny picture which included all of the animals in the story. She is simply amazing!

We had an absolutely amazing afternoon. To meet the lady who's books have brought fun and laughter to our bedtime story routine for the last 7 years was simply amazing. Chester and Millie really love story time and came away full of excitement and happiness, having had the story acted out in front of them like that. It has certainly made me realise that it would be nice to take them to some plays and shows suitable for their age group.

The new book, 'What the Ladybird Heard Next' is out now and available from all good retailers. We have read the book lots already and absolutely love it, not least because it has glitter on every page! So of course we would happily recommend it!
