Around the World in 5 days... Bernard Matthews style!

Bernard Matthews recently asked me if I would like to take part in their Around the World in 5 days challenge, using their Turkey Chunks.

I am already a fan of the Turkey Chunks and usually use them for lunch or as a jacket potato topper. But if I am honest, I had never thought to use them in anything else, until recently of course, when I made the Turkey Mac & Cheese. But even so, 5 meals, could I really manage 5 meals using them as the main ingredient? So with that in mind, I accepted the challenge! I was given 4 recipes to follow and then needed to think up my own for the 5th day.

Day 1 was Mexican Mondays. Now we are a bit partial to a Fajita in this house, and it almost always makes it onto our weekly meal plan. This time though, we would be using Hickory BBQ Turkey Chunks and even making our own salsa! This is certainly a dinner for those nights when you have not got much time. So when the children have after school clubs or you need to whip something healthy up in a hurry this is a great option.

As you will see from the pictures, we had lots of fun shaking our maracas and getting into the theme of it all!


Day 2 was Cheesy Tuesdays. It was the day I was looking forward to the most if I am honest. Everyone that knows me, knows how much I love American style Mac & Cheese, and this Turkey chunk version is the closest I have been able to make it to resemble the taste and texture of the one I love so much when holidaying in America!

We had some American flags to wave about!


Day 3 was  Chinese Wednesdays. Chinese is my favourite cuisine, Chester shares my love of it, but Craig and Millie are not overly fussed. So this day was about changing their opinions! I made a Sweet and Sour Turkey, it was delicious, everyone agreed! With everyone going in for seconds! I was amazed that it took me less than 30 minutes to prepare and cook, and very surprised at how easy it was to make a sweet and sour sauce from scratch. No more jars here, homemade all the way!

We were given chopsticks to eat with and had lots of fun trying to eat with them, with Millie making the most mess!


Day 4 was Curry Thursdays. I will hold my hand up and say that I normally do not like curry. I will happily make it for my family, but its just not for me. BUT having cooked this Turkey Tikka Masala from scratch and again, being amazed at just how easy it was to make from scratch I really wanted to try it. I wasn't expecting to like it, but I did! It wasn't as spicy as I had thought it would be and once I got past the look of it I actually really enjoyed it!

Serving the curry in the authentic pans was something the kids really loved!


Day 5 was my 'create your own' day, and as Chester and Millie love Pizza, I decided to have Italian Fridays. With Chester and Millie in charge of making the Pizzas! They did a great (if a little messy) job and in no time at all our pizzas were topped with cheese, sweetcorn, pineapple and Turkey Chunks! Yes, Chester and Millie choose the toppings! It was a great 'movie night tea'.


So there you go, Around the World in 5 days was a lot easier, and a lot less time consuming than I thought. Infact the time it took me to make the meals (all from scratch) meant that they really were perfect mid week meals.
