Jam Tarts!

The kiddies wanted to bake something the other day, and when I suggested Jam Tarts they both said yes please! It was fun, messy, and held their attention spans! 

I wanted to make it as simple as possible so we cheated and brought some ready rolled shortcrust pastry. 

We rolled it a little thinner, as I always think jam tarts taste better when the pastry is thin. 

I gave Chester and Millie round pastry cutters and they set about cutting out their pastry rounds. 

We then pressed the rounds into muffin tins and pricked the base of the pastry with a fork.

Next came the messy part! They filled each pastry with with a teaspoon of jam, which doesn't seem a lot at the time but when cooking you do not want them to spill over the top. 

We had a tiny bit of pastry off cuts left so we decided to cut out some little stars to place on half of the jam tarts. All in all we managed to make 24 Jam Tarts!

We baked them in the oven for 20 mins and then left them to cool for a good hour. That was the hard part of course because the kiddies just wanted to eat them straight away!
