Ever since we made these simple Cheese Scones, both Chester and Millie have been asking for us to make some more. So this week I had some spare chocolate chips lying about so we decided to make some chocolate chip scones!
I searched for Scone recipes on Baking Mad, and although they did not have a chocolate chip recipe, I figured out it would be pretty easy to add them to a basic scone recipe.
225g of self raising flour (I like Allinsons)
1tsp baking powder
40g unsalted butter
1/2 tbsp golden caster sugar (I like Billingtons)
100g dark chocolate chips
Put the flour, baking powder and butter into a bowl and rub together until it resembles breadcrumbs.
Stir in the sugar and chocolate chips.
Whilst stirring, slowly add the milk. Bring the mixture together (add more flour if gets too wet).
Put mixture onto a floured surface, gently knead then roll out to about 2-3 cm thick.
Use pastry cutters to press out your scones (we used both circles and flowers!)
Place onto a baking tray lined with baking paper and glaze the tops with a little milk.
Cook on 200 degrees for around 10 minutes until the tops turn golden brown.
We managed to get 16 scones out of this mix. I went for slightly smaller scones as I think they are a perfect size for the kiddies!
