Something fun to do on a nice Autumn day!

Chester is a child who needs his mind to be occupied at all times! So this morning when I saw that it was nice and mild outside I decided what better way to occupy him than to have a nice walk. I then thought outside of my little box a bit and came up with the idea of doing a check list of things to find whilst we were out and about.

As Chester's attention span is getting better by the day at the moment I decided to see if he would sit and draw some objects he would like to find. His drawings, until very recently have mainly been scribble based, so I was very pleased to see what he came up with:

He thought of all the items himself, I then encouraged him to draw them. I was trying to explain the different shapes he needed to draw to make them look like the objects in question. So I think he did really well, I am very proud of his efforts. If you look at the cat he has drawn a circle for a face and then put the ears on the side of the face and a rectangle body. So he is not far off!

We then wrapped up warm and went outside! Both kiddies were very excited.....

Chester and the little girl next door get on really well so he asked if we could knock and see if she and her Mummy would like to come with us. They did, which was great. So we spent the next 45 mins or so exploring the area we live in looking for the objects. Both Chester and the little girl next door loved looking out for items, by the end neither of them were bothered about ticking the list but they both were still looking out for the objects.

We did not manage to find all of the items, surprisingly we did not see one cat! They must of all been having naps! Neither did we see a post box, which we would of if we had not taken a short cut haha.

Millie fell asleep about 5 minutes into the walk so was oblivious to it all! If she had been awake I would of been pointing things out to her too.

All in all a great time was had, it was a great way to get out into the fresh air. We could of driven to the country park to do the same thing, but I didn't want to use the car today. So my top tip of the day is make the most of what is around you within walking distance, it doesn't matter if you live in a village, town or city you can adapt your search to your surroundings.

Chester was still talking about his "treasure hunt" as he is calling it, at bed time this evening so it must of been fun!

  1. This looks like a great way to change a simple walk into something more fun. We're lucky to have a country park, a town park and a number of playgrounds in walking distance from our home and we try to take advantage as much as we can.

    Found you via Country Kids.

    1. You are lucky, we have to drive to get to most of the parks near us :)

  2. I love the idea of making a list and going off to explore. I am also a big fan of making use of what is close to home, a walk from the house or short drive is much less effort and can be just as much fun. We have some great Scavinger Hunt pages on our web site under Kids Education if you ever wanted some more ideas to hunt for. Thank you for sharing on Country Kids, and you are right Chester's drawings are to be proud of!
